Ah Hoi’s Kitchen @ Hotel Jen Tanglin – 5 Crabs to Feast on During the Festival of Crabs

Are you a fan of crabs? If you are, Ah Hoi’s Kitchen at Hotel Jen Tanglin by Shangri-la  is celebrating 2017 crabbing season with “Festival of Crab”. Using high quality Sri Lankan Crabs, these crustaceans are whipped out in 10 different styles for you to choose from. Happening till end July, you still have another month to try these finger licking good crabs here.

So my friends are crab crazy and we managed to try 5 different flavours.

1.  Singapore Chilli Crab 

Cooked with a thick and fragrant sauce. The sauce is the hero of the dish, with its sambal cooked painstakingly over many hours to build the perfect base, flavoured with egg white ribbons. My favourite though were the  deep-friend ‘’mantous” that were used to mop up the luscious sauce. The folks at Ah Hoi sure knows how to whip out a good chilli crab

2. Kam Heong Crab

We ordered this all-time Malaysian favourite renowned for its combination of Malay, Chinese and Indian influences with dried shrimps, curry leave, birds eye chilli. The combination of flavors stirs up an aromatic and mouth-watering sensation which can be rather mouth watering.

3.  Creamy White Pepper Crab

The crab is cooked in a thick cream sauce dabbled with the subtle white pepper, producing an eccentric myriad of flavours. You can order those “mantous” again and deep them with the sauce, equally delicious.

4. Salted Egg and Crispy Yam Crab

A combination of salted egg and strands of crispy yam sticks tossed with crab giving you a magical burst of taste that must be simply experienced. A tad different from the other salted egg yolk dishes you get elsewhere so it might not be what you’ll expect.

5. Claypot Crab Beehoon

 Silky Vermicelli noodle strands and Crab slow-cooked in an authentic clay pot allowing the noodles soaking in all the delightful flavours from the crab and broth. If you ask me, i’d still prefer Mellben’s version of this crab beehoon but this one here at Ah Hoi’s is not that bad;it is just that Mellben’s version is irresistible.

While we had the chance to try these four flavours at Ah Hoi’s, there’s also 5 more other crabby versions to choose from – Sarawakian Black Pepper Crab, Butter and Garlic Crab, Stir-fried Ginger and Onion Crab, Indonesia Claypot Curry Crab & Glass Noodles and Chinese Wine Crab. Who doesn't love crabs and the ones whipped out at Ah Hoi's Kitchen were tastily delightful. Try the Chilli Crab and Kam Heong flavours, though there are 10 versions to choose from!
