Hong Kong is filled with food, delicacies and more food, so spending just a few nights in this foodie paradise can be a headache when settling your meals because there are too many places to go but too little time. Now you know why the watering holes i visited (in my previous post) had only drinks and not food.
Travelling to Hong Kong soon and have been googling ‘What to eat in Hong Kong” or “Dinner in Hong Kong”? Follow me as i show you some of the dinner places my friens and i went to (some local kinds, some atas kinds), and maybe you could put that on your list during your next Hong Kong trip!
1. Sin Kee 盛記
Take a slow 10 mins walk from Central MTR to Stanley Street and in the evenings, it changes into a backstreet lane filled with “cze cha” stalls. My Singaporean friend currently working in Hong Kong suggested this da pai dang place because we wanted something local on our first night here.
What’s famous here? I would say the sweet and sour pork! The scrambled eggs were good too, with that pungent wok hei fragrance and you wouldn’t want to miss local chilli mussels. Probably worth a try if you’re in the area and want something different from the Hong Kong Island restaurants.

2. Chan Kun Kee
This other da pai dang we visited is located further away from the city. Alright from Sha Tin MTR and a brisk walk of around 15 mins will take you to this neighborhood cze cha which i really recommend. Oh yes, we even encountered and witnessed a real life mini triad fight during our meal there (tables flipping, bottles shattering) but we we were well taken care off by the locals.
This dish was my favourite (right) – Wasabi Chicken. They got the kick of the wasabi right and the chicken was shredded thinly, so perfectly.
Fried eggs with oysters (left). Love the way hawkers here recreate this dish. Deep fried in darn hot oil, the egg instantaneously shrivels up into this crisp pile. All you gotta do is to add some fresh oysters

3. Kam’s Roast Goose
A trip to Hong Kong is never complete without trying their specialty goose! This time round, we were fortunate with the queue and YAS the goose from 1 Michelin Star Kam’s Roast got buried in our bellies.
Thinly sliced roast pork (right). This dish was a gem and we finished every bit of skin on the plate. Still reminiscing about this time and time again.
What you see here was half a goose (left). Much tastier and tender than the ones you find back home, it was delicious and certainly worth the wait, but there’s definitely better ones out there.

4. Kwan Kee Claypot Rice
I am a claypot rice fan. Imagine the right amount of charred fragrance, rice that’s slightly burnt and the arouma of the meats in the claypot ingrained in the rice, yeap, that’s my definition of a good claypot rice. Tried several including the much hyped Four Seasons Claypot rice in Mongkok (omg don’t ever visit that place, over hyped, terrible and a real waste of money and calories) but this shop Kwan Kee near Sai Yin Pun MTR does it very, very well.
We tried 2 clay pots – lup chiong (preserved sausages) with chicken & preserved duck with pork ribs and both were wonderfully done. There’s so many choices to choose from so just pick your favourite meats and viola……

5. Happy Paradise
Whats so happy in this paradise? The food and cocktails of course. First you have to climb your way up the steep slopes of Central to reach Happy Paradise (which is next to Little Bao). Unlike its relatively calm exterior, walk up the short staircase and when you enter the dining room, think neon lit ceiling, neon lit bar counter and tiled walls with peculiar artworks.
Start of with signature cocktails from the menu (left & bottom). We chose a couple but i’d probably stick with my craft beers (personal because i’m more of a beer and wine fan).
Plated and served exactly like a pigeon (right), it was done medium well and i was apprehensive to bite into a bird which is seen as a pest back home. All was forgotten when you chew into the tender meat as we really liked the texture of the pigeon and how the smoked tea aroma masks any traces of unwanted pigeon odour.
My favourite dish of the evening and – Char Siu Bowl (left). The secret, drizzle a tablespoon of melted pork lard onto the dish in addition to some of their in house soy sauce. Mix well and you’ll never look at char siew rice the same way again.
Do also try the sweet and sour pork (bottom). Served inside a partially half burnt pineapple, each piece of pork was filled with fats and melts in your mouth when you start to chew.

So these are some of the dinner places that we tried during our stay in Hong Kong. There are so many other places i would have want to try but we were limited by time. Let me know what yall think on the above recommendations.
